Photo #5 – Some Kind of Bovine

Some Kind of Bovine - 1/250th - f/4 - ISO 50 - 200mm

Down the freeway from the Blythe megalopolis we begin to head into the vast openness that is the American Southwest.  The next great metropolitan area is going to be Quartzite which is best known for the largest gem and mineral show in the country and for great deals on RV’s.  A busted up wreck of a car grabs our attention just as we realize it’s time to get the next shot. A short detour off the freeway to find the wreckage was about to end in disappointment as the vehicles were not accessible without some serious trespassing until we ran out of road right where our new friends were hanging out.

We wanted to give a sense that there were a lot of cows there when there was really only five or six. To get the right look we used a wider open aperture of f/5 to have a shorter depth of field, along with shooting at 200mm to help compress the scene and shorten the depth of field even more. Focusing on the cow that was staring us down with his “what the hell do you want” look combined with the blurred background leads you to believe you are just getting a small piece of the story.
